ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Vice President Nechirvan Barzani delivered a powerful speech during the KDP’s parliamentary election campaign in Erbil, paying tribute to the party’s long-standing role in the Kurdish struggle for freedom and unity. Addressing a crowd of party supporters, Barzani highlighted the intertwined history of the Kurdish people and the KDP, stressing the party’s commitment to continuing its legacy of resilience and progress.

“Today, we gather in the light of the 78-year-old torch of the KDP,” Barzani stated. “The story of the Kurdish people and the KDP has become inseparable. Our path has not been easy, and while we still face challenges, the Kurdish people know that the KDP has proudly raised this torch, promising to carry it forward.”

KDP Vice President Nechirvan Barzani expressed his unwavering belief that the long-held dreams of the Kurdish people would be realized through their courage and resilience. He emphasized the need to continuously renew strength and hope, stating that the KDP has risen in the past and will rise again to serve the people and the country.

Reflecting on the KDP’s historical significance, Barzani noted, “The KDP is more than just a political party. It is a movement, a beacon of light for all Kurdish communities. Founded in 1946, it was not merely an organization but a new star for a people long deprived of their rights, voice, and identity. The KDP embodies the path of Kurdishness, resistance, and struggle.”

Barzani also paid tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for the cause of Kurdish freedom, emphasizing that their efforts had not been in vain. “Freedom is not given as a holiday but achieved through struggle and sacrifice,” he said. “Despite hardships like budget cuts, threats from ISIS, and military blockades, the Kurdish people have stood by their parliament, government, and presidency.”

He concluded by calling for continued progress in all aspects of Kurdish society, drawing inspiration from the torch of Newroz as a symbol of hope and renewal. “Under the leadership of President Masoud Barzani and the KDP, we will ensure the political, social, and cultural development of our country,” Barzani said, affirming the party’s commitment to a just and proud Kurdistan.
