PM Masrour Barzani orders financial aid for over 3,500 Yezidi ISIS survivors

"The financial assistance will cover all the Yezidi citizens who have been rescued from ISIS, including those who relocated abroad after their liberation."

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Kurdistan Region’s Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has initiated the distribution of financial assistance to more than 3,500 Yezidi citizens who survived the brutal reign of the terrorist organization ISIS.

On Sunday, Saeed Jardo, head of the Supreme Committee of the Lalish Cultural and Social Center, announced in a news conference, "The financial assistance will cover all the Yezidi citizens who have been rescued from ISIS, including those who relocated abroad after their liberation."

Jardo elaborated that Yezidi citizens residing abroad can complete an online form, which will be made available by the Lalish Cultural and Social Center on Sunday.

He expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Masrour Barzani for the financial aid and emphasized the Prime Minister's consistent support for the Yezidis and his efforts to ensure their rights.

The time and place of distribution of the financial assistance will be as follows:

According to Jardo, survivors residing in Sinjar can visit the designated centers for four days to receive financial assistance from the Kurdistan Regional Government. A special committee has been formed to facilitate this process.

In addition to financial support, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has also implemented measures to aid Yezidi survivors in resuming their education. On Thursday, July 18, based on the Prime Minister’s recommendation, the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministry of Education decided to provide comprehensive educational facilities for survivors of ISIS attacks listed as survivors.

The ministerial decree includes the following provisions:

1. The General Directorate of Provinces and Independent Administrations will oversee a special committee dedicated to this initiative, particularly in Duhok province and Zakho autonomous administration, where most survivors reside.
2. The Director Generals of Provinces and Independent Administrations have been granted authority to waive age requirements, enabling survivors to return to education.
3. Survivors who completed the 9th grade of primary school but were subsequently captured by ISIS and have since exceeded the legal age for schooling will be allowed to resume their education.
4. Survivors registered on the official list and who graduated from the 9th grade of primary school are entitled to study in all private institutions free of charge for five academic years.
