ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) - A large contingent of Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF or locally known as Hashd al-Shaabi forces), estimated at 3,000 fighters and 200 vehicles, has reportedly entered the territory bordering the first Peshmerga front in the Garmian and Kulajo districts.

They have allegedly seized an oil well in the area, raising alarms about potential escalations in the region.

A senior military source revealed to Kurdistan 24 that this operation was carried out in coordination with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) security forces in the area.

The Hashd al-Shaabi forces are actively establishing positions near the seized oil well and fortifying their presence.

According to the same source, PUK forces have withdrawn from their positions, seemingly handing over control of the oil well and a significant portion of Garmian to the Hashd al-Shaabi, as per an alleged agreement between the two groups.

This development has sparked concerns about the potential for further encroachment by Hashd al-Shaabi into areas traditionally under Peshmerga control.

The situation underscores the delicate security balance in the disputed territories and the need for continued dialogue and cooperation between all parties involved to maintain stability.
