ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – On the somber occasion of the 36th anniversary of the Anfal Campaign in Badinan, Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani issued a heartfelt message honoring the victims, survivors, and families affected by the brutal genocide.

In his statement, Prime Minister Barzani underscored the federal government’s responsibility to provide reparations to those who suffered during the Anfal campaign.

He said, "The federal government ought to fulfill its legal and moral duty and compensate the families of victims and martyrs who perished in the Anfal campaign at the hand of the former Iraqi regime.”

The Prime Minister recounted the tragic events of 36 years ago, when thousands of innocent lives were lost and countless villages were destroyed in the final phase of the Anfal campaign.

He emphasized that the Ba'athist regime's objective was the extermination of the Kurdish people, but their resilience and pursuit of freedom could not be extinguished.

"The aim of these heinous crimes was to exterminate and genocide the Kurdish people, but the perpetrators of these massacres could not destroy the will and freedom-seeking desire of the Kurdish nation," Barzani stated.

In closing, Prime Minister Barzani paid tribute to the souls of the Anfal victims in Badinan and all martyrs of Kurdistan. He reiterated the Kurdistan Regional Government's commitment to serving the families of the martyrs and continuing efforts to secure justice and recognition for the victims of the Anfal genocide.
