Remembering the Victims

The Kurdistan Region’s President solemnly recalled the devastating impact of the campaign, which claimed the lives of 182,000 innocent people and ravaged the environment, leaving lasting scars on the region.

He paid tribute to the victims, honoring their memory with the utmost respect.

Call for Justice and Compensation

While acknowledging the Iraqi High Tribunal's recognition of Anfal as genocide, Kurdistan Region’s President Barzani emphasized the necessity for the Iraqi government to provide full and just compensation to the families of the victims.

He further urged the Kurdistan Region to intensify efforts in supporting these families and seeking international recognition for the Anfal as an act of genocide.

Preserving Constitutional Rights and Unity

The Kurdistan Region’s President Barzani underlined the importance of safeguarding the constitutional rights of the Kurdistan Region, achieved through the immense sacrifices of martyrs and the enduring pain of those who lost loved ones.

He called for unity and cohesion among all communities in the region, especially during challenging times, to protect these hard-won rights and ensure a prosperous future for all.

Learning from the Past, Building a Hopeful Future

The Kurdistan Region’s President stressed the need to learn from the tragic historical events in Iraq and to work collectively towards protecting the rights of all communities within the nation.

This, he stated, is crucial for building a future of hope and prosperity for generations to come.

In closing, the Kurdistan Region President Barzani expressed gratitude to the people of Erbil and surrounding areas who showed compassion and patriotism by aiding the victims of Badinan at the Jezhnikan camp during those difficult times. Their kindness, he affirmed, will never be forgotten.
