ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – In the early morning of August 10, a drone attack occurred in Hasaka, in northeast Syria, (Rojava) west of Kurdistan, at a U.S. base there. known as as Rumalyn Landing Zone, near the village of Kharabwljair.

There were no reported casualties or damage in the latest assault.

Since Oct. 7. when Hamas launched its bloody cross-border attack on Israel, there have been nearly 170 attacks on U.S. bases on Iraq and Syria, and the U.S. has had difficulty in stopping them.

Initially, the U.S. tolerated the attacks, because they caused few casualties and little damage. However, on Jan. 28, an attack on a U.S. base in Jordan caused the deaths of three American soldiers.

That prompted the Biden administration, finally, to take decisive action. Days afterwards, on Feb. 3, the U.S.launched a decisive attack, hitting 85 targets in Syria and Iraq in just 30 minutes.

Saturday’s drone attack did start a fire in the base, but U.S. authorities have released little information about the latest assault.

It is widely assumed that a pro-Iranian militia was responsible.

Indeed, in a press briefing on Thursday, Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary, Sabrina Singh, was questioned about this.

“There have been new clashes between Iranian backed Arab tribes and the Kurdish forces, the Syrian Democratic Forces,” a journalist stated, before asking, “To your knowledge, have US forces engaged in the fight or does it affect the campaign against ISIS?”

She had a rather short and clipped response, “I'm not aware of US forces engaging. Yeah, I'll have to leave it at that.”

However, that seems likely to change with Saturday’s attack.
