ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - On Saturday, the First Karkh Investigative Court announced the successful dismantling of the largest drug trafficking network in Baghdad, leading to the seizure of 221 kilograms of Captagon pills.

The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) released a statement confirming that the operation resulted in the arrest of ten individuals, including several foreign nationals, involved in the illicit drug trade.

The statement detailed that the operation was carried out by the Karkh Directorate of Narcotics Affairs under a judicial order.

This significant crackdown follows a related operation by the Iraqi National Security Agency, which recently announced the arrest of three international drug traffickers in Baghdad.

These individuals were found in possession of 200,000 Captagon pills, which they attempted to smuggle by concealing them in rice bags.

The alarming rise in drug-related activities in Iraq has been highlighted by recent statistics, showing a 40 percent increase in addiction and a 30 percent rise in drug trafficking over the past seven years.
